500 million times "Power from East Westphalia"

Ostbevern/Bad Homburg v.d. Hoehe, 13.12.2001
In 1971 when Friemann & Wolf Geraetebau GmbH (FRIWO) was founded and developed the world's first electronic plug-in adapter, nobody thought that 30 years later they would produce the 500 millionth plug-in power supply and set global standards of technical competence and product quality.

Today the subsidiary of the SDAX-listed CEAG AG is the leading manufacturer of chargers for mobile phones, with a world market share of 22 %. Meanwhile almost all leading mobile phone manufacturers place their trust in FRIWO products.
Power supplies and chargers, however, are not only produced for mobile and cordless phones, ISDN systems, answering machines or modems but also for medical and rehabilitation technologies, door and look technologies, the electro technical industry, toys and information technologies.

100 million units have left FRIWO's worldwide production sites in 2001 alone. Wether for cardiac pacemakers, wheelchairs or, like the 500 millionth – a plug-in power supply – for electronic precision scales. All these products are "Powered by FRIWO" and have an enormous effect in our daily lives.

Technical competence and supplier reliability did not only make CEAG AG/FRIWO Group the world's leading supplier for the OEM customers of the telecommunications market. All companies of the CEAG Group stand out due to their intensive customer contact. Development, construction and design are always based on very close co-operation with the different manufacturers.

Global Orientation
The customer and country specific product portfolio targets high volume markets (mobile phones, information technology) as well as highly fragmented niche markets. Production plants and R+D departments in the dynamically growing world markets of the future, i.e. Europe, Asia and America enable the CEAG AG/FRIWO Group to render their international customers excellent service and R+D know-how.
While technically more demanding products and small production series are mainly produced in Ostbevern, mass production, especially chargers for mobile phones, are manufactured in China.

Dealing with Challenges
The group quickly reacted to the ever changing difficult market situations with market orientated initiatives and strategic measures, like the cost leadership project started in June 2000 and is continuously persued with high motivation.

The penetration of new growth markets and the expansion of the customer portfolio by means of intensified diversification in non telecom product segments will successively reduce the dependence on the telecommunications sector.

In the course of this year projects to define platforms for medical technologies, office communication and power tools have already been launched with the aim to further broaden the turnover share in these markets.

The new business field EMS (Eletronic Manufacturing Services), i.e. the complete production according to customer requirements, gives hope for a positive business development medium-term. Especially the POWERLINE product range has already led to an increased order level.

To achieve the second place in the "TOP 100 Awards", to win the "Siemens Logistics Award" and finally the "Nokia Black Belt" for one of the FRIWO-employees are, amongst other things, the best confirmation that the right measures were taken in 2001.

To continuously think innovatively, to set new trends. In the future CEAG AG/FRIWO Group will constantly follow new paths when it comes to developing products and associated services.
