CEAG AG:
Sales increase by 16 per cent in the first quarter

Bad Homburg v. d. Hoehe, May 14th, 2001

CEAG AG, a company quoted officially on the stock exchange, a holding of the FRIWO Group and a globally leading producer of small power supplies and chargers, headquartered in Ostbevern / Westphalia, Germany, increased its sales of power supplies and chargers by more than 16 per cent from 22.6 million to 26.3 million units in the first quarter of 2001. Despite difficult framework conditions in the sector of mobile telephones and increasing downward pressure of prices the sales volume of the previous year (€ 57 million) was almost achieved with 56.9 million euros.
With 4.045 million euros the annual pre-tax figures are under the figures of the previous year (€ 6.350); however, the pre-tax yield, which is depending on changing market conditions, is with 7.1 per cent within the expectation.
Main sales volume performer with € 43.2 million (previous year € 43.9 million) and a share of 76 per cent in the total turnover was the core business of telecommunications. The order volume of € 52.7 million was below last year's (€ 52.7 million).

Considering the currently difficult market environment in the mobile telephone sector which will even be more noticeable in the second quarter CEAG AG expects for the running financial year - in comparison to the previous year - a lower but still two-digit sales volume growth between 10 and 15 per cent as well as a slight improvement in the pre-tax profit.
The market share for mobile telephones shall be further increased from 22.6 per cent onwards. According to Rolf Endress, executive board chairman, the more restrained expectation forecast is primarily due to downward corrected sales expectations of approximately 450 million of sellable mobile telephones for 2001 and an accordingly depressed beginning of the year. Within this context the further realization of identified measures of the initialized cost leadership project will be essential.
In future sales volume increases will be obtained in application areas like the information, medicine, industry and tool technology as well as with the start of the POWERLINE technology for the private house networking.
